Julie Johnson

Julie founded Research by Design in 1998 in an effort to provide her clients with more personal attention and to offer them affordable options for research services that most larger, full-service market research firms are unable to offer. Her clients have included Nike, Hewlett Packard, TriMet, Kaiser Permanente, The Oregonian, and ESPN, among others.

In 2008, Julie started the Discovery Collaborative, a market research firm specializing in higher education research. Julie and her partner, Debbie Plawner, conducted brand identity and alumni engagement studies for University of Oregon, Linfield College, University of Portland, Chico State and Seattle University.

After four years with Discovery Collaborative, Julie decided to return to Research by Design, serving a broader group of clients, small and large.

Julie spent the first decade of her career in the San Francisco Bay Area managing research for Allstate Research and Planning Center, and Pacific Bell Directory's new product development, product management and advertising groups. After moving to Portland, Oregon, she spent four years working for the Gilmore Research Group as an account executive and moderator.

Julie lives in the Portland, Oregon area with her husband and dog. She has two grown sons.
